About Spin Off Productions
After spending the first half of my life as a performer in the theatre I decided to open my own drama school and hopefully pass on some tips on joining a very competitive world. One of my first pupils was Debra Stephenson who is making a great success in the entertainment world. I then opened the drama department at Malet Lambert School where 1 stayed for eight years. Directing all of the school productions and helping pupils with their GCSE Drama exams. I left teaching in 1990 to start my own theatre company; the main aim of the company was to make the plays of William Shakespeare more accessible to schools by simplifying the main themes and using modern techniques to make them more interesting for young people.
Over the years my company has concentrated on three themes:
• To encourage people of all ages to read more
• To work on projects involving people with additional needs
• To alert young people to internet safety
So as the name of the company suggests we have ‘spun off’ through the years into areas that I feel are important. With the use of drama combined with other creative arts to communicate and educate through the art of live theatre.
Gerald Fox has been associated with Spin Off Productions for some years in his life as an actor, writer, director of plays and workshops for the company. He wrote our Cyber Bullying Projects CLICK CLEVER’ and 'CLICK CLEVER 2' using Forum Theatre, which encourages the audience to participate in the presentation. The play helps to outline the problems surrounding the characters in the play or workshop.
Gerald has worked extensively in special schools in Hull, the East Riding and Lincolnshire. He directed our adaptation of the ‘Tin Solider’ by Hans Christian Andersen.
Debra Stephenson is Spin Off Production's Patron. She was taught drama by Honor Pallant between the ages of 5 and 16 and since then has gone on to have a very successful career in television.
Debra's first appearance on TV was at the age of 14 in BBC TV's Opportunity Knocks winning her way through to the All-Winners' Final. Since this time she has appeared in Bad Girls as Shell Dockley, Coronation Street as Frankie Baldwin and currently is working on the ITV Impressions show called Newzoids.
